Arboriculture Qualifications
In 2013, Jez completed his Diploma of Arboriculture (AHC50510), an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 5 qualification.
His studies covered tree health, structural assessments, pest and disease identification, species selection and tree protection planning. This formal training strengthened his technical knowledge and developed his understanding of tree biology, risk assessment and long-term tree management.
Combined with his extensive hands-on experience, this qualification supports the professional assessments and recommendations he provides as a qualified arborist.
Professional Arboriculture Experience
Throughout his career, arborist Jez Copley has had the opportunity to undertake contracting work for Gold Coast City Council (GCCC), Scenic Rim Regional Council and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS). His experience working with these organisations forms an important part of his professional background. Their responsibilities cover public parks and community spaces, regional landscapes and protected natural areas.
Each setting presents different requirements, particularly around public safety, environmental protection and vegetation management. These contracts have given him valuable experience working with organisations responsible for managing Queensland’s public spaces and natural environments.
Buckingham Palace Experience
Would you believe he actually had the opportunity to work at Buckingham Palace in London? Yes, it’s true! His time working in England also took him to several Royal Parks across London and the South East. It’s not every day someone gets to work in places with that much history. Looking back, those opportunities are among the most memorable experiences of his career, and they’re certainly something he enjoys sharing when people ask about his work overseas.
Queensland Arboricultural Association Membership
As a member of the Queensland Arboricultural Association (QAA), Membership No. 1508, Jez Copley values being part of a professional community dedicated to advancing arboriculture across Queensland.
One thing he appreciates about this industry is the opportunity to learn from other arborists and share experiences. They might run different businesses, but they share a common interest in doing good work and looking after the trees and environments they work with.
He values the mutual respect within the arboriculture community, the willingness to share knowledge and the opportunity to keep learning from people who have spent years working in the field.
Jez’s Tree Care Advice
There are plenty of questions he has heard from homeowners time and again.
- Can a damaged tree be saved?
- Will pruning stop roots from damaging a driveway?
- When is the right time to prune?
- What should you do when a tree comes down during a storm?
These are the questions he addresses through the JC Tree Services guides, sharing practical advice on tree health, pruning, root problems, removal and safety. Every guide draws on his knowledge of arboriculture and the real situations homeowners face across the Gold Coast.
As a qualified arborist, he is committed to sharing accurate, practical information that homeowners can rely on. His goal is to explain each subject clearly, help readers recognise potential problems and give them a better understanding of the work their trees need.
